I finally did it!

Going back a year..... Emily and I were sitting in the kitchen at my father's house one Sunday evening and Emily asked me "Hey have you ever thought about writing a book?" That was all she had to say to get me on board. We both love to read and can't wait to get our hands on the next trend of book that came out. The next month seemed like a whirl wind of planning and coming up with ideas. Emily had already been thinking about a story about a boy named Knox and a magical world that he did not know existed. Within the next two months the story of Knox and his journey started to form. In writing a book we never thought of all the detail that had to go into a story. There was a lot of planning in coming up with back stories of each character. What were their likes and dislikes not to mention what these characters might look like. We both now appreciate more now than before what writers really have to go through in coming up with a great story.

In mid September we were finally able to dive in to that magical world that we have grown to love. A world full of love and betrayal for Knox in his journey of finding out who he really is becoming. There are some days that life can get to crazy and we are not able to write and it is on those days that we could not wait to jump back into a world that is different from our own.

Moving ahead 6 months down the road we finally finished our first book. For both of us living in two different states I think that finishing a book in less than a year was a great accomplishment.

The rebuilding begins

I seem to have not posted since the tornado hit our little town of Ringgold. There's a lot that has happened with the town and of course our family. For over a month the church in our area was in full force in trying to help as many families as possible to try and bring some sort of normal icy back into their lives. Even after two and a half months have gone by it still looks like a war zone. Every now and then you can catch a small glimpse of becoming a town again. The businesses that lost everything are starting to rebuild. Even though Ringgold lost a lot it is awesome to see the way that people can come together after a disaster. The schools were closed for a week after the storm to get the roads cleared but to also find a place to house the middle and high school students for the rest of the school year. Madison was one of the students that had to finish her school year in a school that was not hers. A school that was hard to call home. The neighboring school Heritage Middle and High school were gracious enough to open their doors. (by the way Heritage is a big rival against Ringgold.) This group of students were not cheerful in spending the last month in a school that they disliked but were overwhelmed with the kindness of the students from both schools. These two schools came together as one. There was no way that two schools would be able to have full days of classes so with special permission from the state of Georgia the students would be able to have half days of the remainder of the school year. (Madison liked this idea) Heritage meet in the morning and Ringgold in the afternoon. Even though these students suffered a great disaster they made the rest of the school as fun and unstressfull as they possible could. So what could they do that would help with that.... they canceled finals!!!!!

The school year is over and to get the school running as best they can they have decided to start the new year on Sept 6. One extra month of summer vacation!!!! There will still be a lot of work to do at the school. The eighth grade wing will still be under construction. Sending the eighth graders to tag along with the high school students. The band, art and chorus rooms will still be needing work (Madison is very upset about this but I keep telling her that it will be better when it is all done.) The football field will not be able to house our Tigers this season. The middle school will have to play away games for this season. I am not looking forward to that just because I will be traveling a lot with Madison since she is now in pep band.

They are hoping to at least be done by the beginning of the new year. I am still unsure if that will happen since there is so much to accomplish. We will just have to wait and see.

You always say it will never happen to me. We could not have been more wrong. In the many years that I have lived in Ringgold it felt like our little town was always in a bubble. Every strong storm that came by would just disappear or move completely around us. Now we understand how safe we have been. Last night around 8:00 things started to get a little scary for our family. The news reported that a tornado was heading towards Ringgold with winds over 80mph. The kids were quickly put into the closet and we waited listening until the time was clear and was safe. We were not out of the closet for more than 10 minutes when we heard that the reporter say that it was on Cherokee Valley Rd. (This road is just a street over from where we live) We rushed the kids back in the closet and stuck it out for a little while longer. When the reports started coming in there was nothing that we could say but where in complete shock. Our little town was destroyed. There were many businesses that lost everything and some that had major damage. There were also three hotels that had roofs taken off. There were also 3 different gas stations that were completely destroyed and there is nothing left. The middle school where Madison goes is destroyed. The eight grade wing has no roof. The football field that is in between the high school and middle school only one light remains standing. The press box is in the parking lot. Field houses are half missing. There are also a lot of houses surrounding the school that looks like nothing more than rubble. The devastation is massive but we are truly blessed that we have a Heavenly Father that kept our family safe and our families surrounding us. We need to have faith and hope that we will prevail from this disaster and become stronger. Our little town will rebuild and we will be better than ever. WE ARE RINGGOLD

I still cannot believe that I have a daughter who is 12. I most be getting really old! Madison is always full of energy and wants to try everything that she can get her hands on. This year in Middle school she started band playing the clarinet (after her mother) which she loves. She also has been in dance for 6 years and this year started going to competitions. In the 4 that her team had done so far this year they have placed 1st! If that was not enough she want to try out for cheer leading for the following school year. And yes she is the newest addition to the Ringgold Middle School cheer leading squad. She will be cheering for the Basketball team since she will also be in pep band next year playing at the football games. In doing all this I am proud that she has kept a 4.0 GPA during her 6th grade year. She amazes me in everything that she does. I could not have asked for such a wonderful daughter.

A few months ago we were driving by the mall and Paige saw some people outside picking up trash from the side of the road( community service) and said "Mommy when I grow up I want to be a Princess who picks up trash from the road". Now we have change careers again. We were in the car and she said " I would like to be a crossing guard so I can tell cars when to stop and go".

I asked Ian what he wanted for his birthday this year all he told me was he wanted a pirate costume. Ian loves to dress up like a pirate, storm trooper, ninja and the list could go on. I could not find him a pirate costume but he did find a viking costume from How to Train your Dragon. Ian also loves to put puzzles together so what more fun to get him some that change as you look at them (it really was not challenging enough he finished those pretty quick). Also when it came to Ian's birthday cake he wanted to be exactly like his Uncle Jordan this year and have a cake made out of Krispy Kreme Donuts. I would have to say that was a really good "cake." Happy Birthday Ian.

I know this post is so far behind but life has just gotten away from me. At the end of February Reagan and I went to go see Dawn and David Huddleston (they use to live out in this area and we are trying to get them to come back!) The trip took about 13 hours to get there and I was so worried for Reagan because she has never flown on an airplane. She did great did not even cry the whole way there and back. This trip was planned over a 6 month period of time in which me and David (her husband) kept it a secret from her. It was so good to be back together as friends again it was like she had not even moved. The time difference through us alittle bit since we were 4 hours behind what we were use to but reagan handled it well. About the weather up there it was COLD and alot of snow but it was really beautiful to see all the mountains covered in snow. Next time I think I will go up when it is not so cold and I will have to take Sean along too!

This year Madison tried out for the Christmas musical Nanny Clause. She was Nanny Kringle the nanny that quits because she is tired of how the elf kids are treating her. In our family we have a tradition that when you turn 6 months old you get a cupcake. Reagan dove right in the moment she saw the cupcake. She tried to get as much as she could in her mouth and when she could not seem to pick up the cupcake she would cry until she got some more in her mouth. The kids thought that she looked like she had been slimed.

Madison and Olivia got to dance at Ringgold's Down Home Christmas with TADA. We have done this for the past 4 years and the girls love it. This year Madison was also able to sing with the choir at Tiger Creek Elementary and did a wonderful job. It was a very busy night with costume changes and running around to get to where the girls needed to be but we had a blast.

On August 2, 2009 Jaxon turned 2 years old. It has gone by fast but I am loving every minute of it. He has accomplished alot in the past year. We are still working on the talking he has gotten alot better and is now starting to actually say the whole word instead of just the first syllable of the word. Just in the past few weeks his vocabulary has grown and we are so proud of him. Of course the age of being 2 comes with the terrible mood swings. I am hoping to grow out of that pretty soon. He finally got his own big boy bed and loves it (thank goodness). Since moving him to his new bed we went from sleeping all night long to now getting up at least once to come and crawl back in bed with mommy and daddy. We are hoping to master sleeping in our own bed all night before he is 3. Happy Birthday Jaxon we love you.

The girls got to go and have their hair, nails, and make-up done during a special party for dance class. They had a fashion show for their parents and got to learn a dance too. The girls had a great time and Paige really enjoyed herself since this was her first time going.

1 month check up

Last week Reagan had her first month check up. Everything went well we are finally jaundice free!!!!!!!! She is now 8lbs 1oz. and is measuring 21 inches long. We are suffering from alittle bit of that baby achne but we are still cute as ever. This check up was the easiest next month it will be time for shots (ouch). It seems like that we were doing so well with our nights and days when it came to sleeping. Now we are so backwards some days and then there are some when she will not sleep much at all during the day. I think it is because the kids are getting restless during the last few weeks of the summer and are a bit to loud. But in just 7 days school starts and then we can try and get on some sort of schedule. I can't wait!!!!!!!

It is finally here!!!!!!!! It has seemed like forever since the last Harry Potter movie came out with them bumping the release date back another 8 months. Olivia got to go this year to the midnight showing with Madison and Patrick. I even decided to go with Reagan (she slept through it all). We were hoping that the kids would stay awake this time until the movie was over. Patrick and Olivia made it through about an hour into then movie before they fell asleep. Madison dozed off for a few minutes. By the way if you have not gone and seen it yet I recommended that you do it soon. We can not wait until the 7th movie comes out next November were we will be bringing the kids again hoping that they stay awake.

For me and Reagan's first family outing we went to see the fireworks for the 4th. Of course we did not have all our family this year because 4 of my children were in Florida with their Nana. We really missed them but we know that they had a wonderful time. Reagan of course slept through the whole thing. I thought that she might not like all the noise but it didn't even bother her one bit. Paige loved them ever time they would go off she would just laugh and say how beautiful they were (literally every one). Jaxon just watched for awhile and then had enough and wanted to go home. Overall it was nice to get out and spend time with family and watch the fireworks.

I can't believe that it has already been 3 weeks since Reagan was born. It has been a rough couple of weeks for us both. When we left the hospital her jaundice level was 8.5 and we went in for her check up two days later and it was already up to a 19.5. So we were told just to the sun by the window when she is sleeping and come back on Monday for a recheck. We went back on Monday and had her foot stuck again (we are up to 3) and she can not get the machine to read it so she sends us over to the hospital to have the test done again (#4) and she is stuck again by this time her keels are bruised. We get the results and it is a 21 so they want to see us back again the next day. So Tuesday we are back at the doctors and I get stuck with the same nurse as the day before and she sticks her again (5) and can not read the results so she tells us that we have to go back to the hospital and have them do the test again. Sean was with me this time and I am glad he was because I started to get into it with this nurse. I am already hormonal after giving birth I have not had time to rest at all or recover and they keep sticking my baby's keel and she screams every time they do. I tried to tell her to wait a day and let her have a break but she kept going off that it is probably off the chart and that she was getting frustrated with this and we needed to go back to the hospital (6). So off we go and I am in tears the whole way. So we go and get the results and it is a 18.5. Which it had gone down but she did not think that was good enough so we had the light brought to our house. I felt so awful every time I had to but her in it because you have to put this band over her eyes and it really looks like I am being cruel. And then of course she screams and that makes me feel worse. Well we were told that we had to go back to the hospital again on Wednesday and not to the doctors so she will only get stuck once that day. And the result came back and it was a 16.4 and so we finally got the jaundice under control and it was coming down!!!!!!!! She is now as of a week ago 7lbs 6 oz. we have not gotten back to our birth weight yet but she has been gaining weight since we dropped from 7lbs 14oz. to 7lbs 2oz. So now that she is finally doing better I can now work on myself in trying to recover which has not be easy. The what you call "blues" with this one have been harder then any other pregnancy I have had. It is getting alot better now. I will post new pics soon as I get them off my camera.

Well it's over 24 hours since little Reagan has come into our lives and I am so exhausted. I don't really know how Kathryn does it when i'm at work. I guess that little respite when I get home is enough to energize her to the end of the day (maybe not). Well, i'll be glad when Kat and Reagan can come home and we can start making memories with our new little one.

Well we now have a new edition to the Hammons Family!! Reagan Hammons was born on June 22, 2009 at 5:44 pm. She was 7 lbs. and 14 oz. (the biggest one ever for us) And let me say, she is a little chunk!! So cute. Well mommy and baby are doing very well. This was probably the easiest delivery of all of our children (Kat may disagree but probably not) and she is now recovering at the hospital (if you want to know which one and room info then just call me (sean). Everyone is so excited about the new arrival that the kids can hardly contian their excitement. They can't wait to go see the baby and are now fighting over who will hold the baby first. I had borrowed this cupcake book from my dad's and it had pretty cool looking cupcakes that did not even look like the should be. So me and Sean decided to do the popcorn cupcakes which are made out of marshmallows (do not recommend doing that one it took about 3 hours to make you have to cut the each one and then glue them together with frosting). We also chose to do the spaghetti platter after finishing that one (very easy) I could not bring myself to eat it with out thinking of spaghetti .

Madison and Olivia have been enrolled in TADA dance academy for a few years now. Every year they dance in the 1890's day celebration that goes on in Ringgold. Olivia's group this year danced to the song from Ghostbusters and Madison got to dance to the song Eye of the tiger. They had so much fun and did a great job dancing in front of everyone.

The kids have been dying to go swimming so it was time to break out the pool. The first day that they got in there was nothing but clouds in the sky and the wind was blowing but they were determined to go and get wet. Paige and Jaxon had to keep getting out to wrap themselves up in their towels just to stay warm (did i mention that as soon as they went inside the sun came out). We did try a few days later and it was a lot warmer and they seem to enjoy it a lot more.

We have now entered the blogging world. I have seem to have some time on my hands right now because it is getting harder and harder to move around being 8 months pregnant I guess I can start now. Here is what has been going on in this big family of ours. Sean about 2 weeks ago graduated (finally) from UTC in mechanical engineering. We are so proud of him and all the hard work that he has put in over the years. He is now working at National Boiler in Trenton Georgia which he loves and still can't believe that he is an engineer. I can tell you that it is a whole different world right now and I am loving every minute of it. The other big news for our family in just a little less then 8 weeks we will be welcoming our 7th child (yes 7). We have decided not to find out this time what we are having. It has not been that bad not knowing I kind of like it. Well I hope to get the hang of this blogging thing and be able to post more.
